BIO

Tohoru Masamune was born in Madison WI. He grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and Boston, MA. His parents emigrated from a Japan where they descended from an old samurai-class family.


He played SHREDDER in Michael Bay’s 2014 TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES movie. He recurs as Kevin Hall-Yoshida (Paxton's Dad) on NEVER HAVE I EVER (Netflix). He played the starring role of Dr. Matt Lin in ARTIFICIAL (2019 EMMY & PEABODY Awards). Other credits include INCEPTION (Christopher Nolan), MARVEL AGENTS of S.H.I.E.L.D., AMERICAN DAD!, He has played starring roles on major stages such as at the Goodman Theatre in SILK directed by Tony Award winner, Mary Zimmerman, and FAR EAST written by A.R. Gurney at The Williamstown Theatre Festival directed by Tony-Award winner Daniel Sullivan. He has also worked on various projects with Oscar/Emmy/Tony-winning directors & writers, Michel, Gondry, Zak Snyder, Jon Cassar, Irene Meechi, & John Schlesinger.

He enjoys playing ice hockey, fighting with samurai swords, shooting Glocks, and jamming on his keyboard and guitar.


He is an MIT grad. His father was a top research professor at MIT, and his grandfather too was a world-renowned scientist (in Japan). He is currently developing a Hockey movie as well a a stage play, THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR written by one of his ancestors, Hakucho Masamune, who was a noted Japanese playwright in the 20’s
